Canada Child Benefit (CCB)
What does Canada Child Benefit mean?
The Canada Child Benefit, or CCB, is a monthly tax-free payment from the federal government designed to help eligible families with the cost of raising children under 18. The amount a family receives is based on factors like household income and the number and ages of children. Filing taxes each year is important for continuing to receive CCB payments.
Why this term matters
For families of autistic or neurodivergent children, the CCB is often a foundation of financial support, and qualifying for the Disability Tax Credit may also open the door to the additional Child Disability Benefit on top of regular CCB payments.
Canadian context
CCB is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency, and payment amounts are recalculated each year based on the previous year's tax return; families are encouraged to file taxes annually even if income is low to ensure they receive payments they may be entitled to.
